Questions
Gwen Park
(8:29) Q: Why have you been streaming with RCV for 24 hours?
MattWRuff
(9:33) @Aaron Parecki what version of Ultra 2.6 or 2.6.5?
IT Never Gets Old
(9:50) Q: Do you think the VFA takes too much CPU for the Yolobox Pro? I really want that feature on the Pro.
MattWRuff
(10:29) @Aaron Parecki same thing!
Gwen Park
(10:43) lol. def a nice accidental test
MattWRuff
(10:47) @IT Never Gets Old Probably yes as the Pro is seriously under powered
MattWRuff
(11:55) @Aaron Parecki Beta testing 2.7.0 this week
Emerald Audiovisual
(12:06) Q: Pro and Mini have the same CPU. The OG one was super slow
Feng Zhu
(12:17) Ultra is the most powerful. Pro and the Mini uses the same CPU.
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(12:28) Q: how do you feel about there being no default wide shot and you have to assign an input to the rodecaster video?
Feng Zhu
(12:49) Ultra=QualComm Snapdragon 865, Mini and the Pro are 660.
Burt Groenheim
(14:32) Q: I have an Atem mini pro, can I change the size of the Picture in Picture size?
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(17:33) Q: do you imagine rode will implement this feature?
IT Never Gets Old
(18:08) Q: Okay Frank... Will VFA come to the Yolobox Pro... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Feng Zhu
(18:15) @IT Never Gets Old Really can not gaurantee or confirm anything yet. I'm happy to push everythiing but oftentimes it's our tech team's final decision and they evaluate a lot of things.
Bill Mew
(18:25) Q: how do the Ultra=QualComm Snapdragon 865, Mini and the Pro are 660 compare to the Magewell director Mini??
Bailey Stone
(19:54) Q: with the PiP however, the size and position adjustments can't be saved within those 4 presets unfortunately, even if you press those to start with
Feng Zhu
(20:24) 845
Mark Sanderson
(20:41) Q Hi Aaron. Didn’t Roland introduce Video Follows Audio in their switchers about 5 years ago with the VR-1HD and the V-1HD+?
Nils Braune
(25:44) 1200 2018 dollars. 😬
Feng Zhu
(26:02) Q: Can I do a user survey here, what attracts you more from the YoloBox Extreme? (for those who are a YoloBox user, or for those who are not)
Mamadou Bah
(26:35) Q does Rodecaster vidéo have stringer ?
Roger's Science Corner
(27:10) Q: Hi Aaron, can you provide a list of all webcams compatible with rodecaster video
Gwen Park
(28:05) Q: variation: does it have a stinger button? lol
Let Your Nerd Be Heard
(29:13) hope someone will be able to create a Companion module for the Rodecaster Video
Bailey Stone
(29:35) Q: Can you use a scene as the source to switch to for either RCV or YoloBox? Or is it only the camera sources
IT Never Gets Old
(33:18) The Roadcaster menus seem so fiddly... It seems very tedious
Bailey Stone
(34:19) Q: How is the heat on the RCV with it streaming for 24+ hrs?
Let Your Nerd Be Heard
(34:59) Q: are you using the media player and video splitter devices that you talked about a few weeks ago to do the replay of the podcast?
MattWRuff
(38:41) @Aaron Parecki I've heard the RCV with rode central on is hard on the Mac. One guy said he had to git off his MacAir and go to a MacBookPro (Max ship)
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(39:36) Q: do you know why the previews for each input skip frames till it's engaged?
Let Your Nerd Be Heard
(40:43) that got way more technical
Feng Zhu
(40:57) Q: you told me that you think RCV is simpler, can you elaborate? I still feel YoloBox Ultra is simpler/easier as you don't need a computer and it's intuitive from the interface.
Feng Zhu
(43:19) Switch Sensitivity is like Switch Delay, but a little bit more sophiscated.
Bailey Stone
(43:32) And make sure to check out Aaron's dedicated video on RCV Autoswitching this week - https://youtu.be/1cRcx4wvJT4?si=y_Iwhgbsi_JuncQB
Nils Braune
(43:41) You could set up to record and stream a small conference OR test something complicated for a Youtube video. :D
IT Never Gets Old
(43:55) I like the control aspects of the Yolobox better
Feng Zhu
(44:23) Q: Can I do a user survey here, hey audience, what attracts you the most from the YoloBox Extreme? (Sorry for being confusing and thank you@MattWRuff )
MattWRuff
(44:31) @Feng Zhu If a customer wanted to record 4K (some do) but stream HD in a smallish setting it would be a good fit
Gwen Park
(44:40) @Feng Zhu Not what you asked, but one feature that would make YB more appealing to me would be both SDI & HDMI ports (currently not a YB user)
Feng Zhu
(44:48) @Gwen Park Good feedback. If total is 8, how many HDMI/SDI you want? just curious.
Gwen Park
(44:53) @Feng Zhu Probably 50/50 If I had to pick but totally realize you might need to make compromises b/c of physical port sizes. Would also be great to have SDI & HDMI out, but less useful than in
MattWRuff
(45:03) Frank (@Feng Zhu) I agree with @Gwen Park SDI is a must for me If I doing an event as I need SDI because of length of run. I don't trust wireless
Andre Yanco
(46:11) Q:8 Inputs and 2 Outputs on the YB extreme is appealing.
Feng Zhu
(46:19) @Andre Yanco it currently is 8 inputs and 2 outputs, but HDMI.
Feng Zhu
(46:42) Q: what more additions could be added to YoloBox Ultra's VFA?
Raul Espinosa
(48:24) Q: The good thing is that Yolobox can add it in an update, right?
Gwen Park
(48:27) I use SDI for small events (<4 cameras) a lot for long cable runs
Gwen Park
(49:18) Also, I prefer using SDI even with not long cable runs b/c of the locking connectors and its slighty less latency (useful for IMAG)
Andre Yanco
(49:26) Q:Fiber HDMI is also finnicky. One twist and you can be done.
MattWRuff
(49:46) @Feng Zhu FYI I find Rode RCV and RCP too simple to use and geared told amateurs. Being a geek I want all the controls I can get
Michael Flotron
(50:09) Fiber HDMI is much thinner than HDMI and easier to handle lol. So nice when flying for gigs
Michael Flotron
(50:30) *thinner than SDI
Bailey Stone
(50:41) Q: I've also used HDBaseT which is HDMI over Cat5E cable which is good in a building that already has loads of network, just not much HDMI or SDI
Andrew Francis
(51:20) Q: What use cases can you see for Video Follows Audio outside of podcasts and visual radio?
Emmanuel Francis
(52:10) For me it's the lack of AUX outs that keeps me away from those little mixers, which is why I use the ATEM SDI EXT. with 4 Aux.
IT Never Gets Old
(52:56) Agreed I have had lots of issues with HDMI to CAT5E converters
RocksAnne Merlins Fantasy Farm
(53:07) yepp, HDMI over Ethernet /CAT was never robust. I tried it so often but FIbre is the solution for today (for me..)
Alex Hardy
(53:33) Q have you ever used HDMI over IP
Bailey Stone
(53:45) You definitely need to buy high quality converters for HDMI over Cat5, don't get the no-name brand ones on Amazon, but I've had great success with conferences in theatres or conference halls
MattWRuff
(54:04) @Aaron Parecki I got called in last night to an event/live stream Bigger than your event 4 M/E driving the event. A Epiphan nano Handling the stream from the ATEM. GoStream Behind the scene Nice setup
andypooet
(54:23) If you're using HDBaseT gear, you should be fine. It's usually just the cheaper dummy converters that are problematic.
IT Never Gets Old
(54:31) I think NDI is really the solution for video over IP
andypooet
(58:31) I've used a Roland V-02HD for this kind of setup. It doesn't fill all your requirements (no 3rd output). But I've (ab)used one to do something like this.
RocksAnne Merlins Fantasy Farm
(58:52) Q hmm, I always need an additional Monitor (wedge) for the Speaker..
Feng Zhu
(59:58) Almost 1am. Have to go now. Have a good rest of the stream!
Gwen Park
(1:00:08) Agree about reducing options for volunteers. I try to make things as simple as possible in that scenario to minimize chance of them getting confused and making mistakes.
Ryan Somerfield
(1:00:16) Q: Have you had fun with the new atem audio routing so far?
Sergio The One
(1:01:44) Q: Since we're on the topic, what are we thinking about 2110? Just for set studios and too complicated for events?
MattWRuff
(1:03:30) @Aaron Parecki You can do all of this and more on a ATEM 2 M/E but not in the same price for sure
Emmanuel Francis
(1:04:05) Q: Do you think BMD will implement the audio routing features into the Atem mini lines?
Gwen Park
(1:04:49) Q: do you still have the BMD 2110 boxes? I can't remember if you did videos on them since it's been a while
Michael Flotron
(1:05:44) I had totally forgotten about that Presentation Converter! I could really use one of those next month for a conference lol
Emerald Audiovisual
(1:06:00) Q: that webtool for audio routing is a bit like the Dante Controller. it's great that he build that. serious addition to the Constellation audio routing feature
Micahdotpage
(1:06:07) Q: is a 2/me sufficient for a 16 input that controls broadcast and screen, but also 2 stage displays? Are auxes for those sufficient?
Michael Flotron
(1:07:49) "Coming Soon" on B&H unfortunately
Andre Yanco
(1:07:51) @Bailey Stone I remember at the time it was not possible since we considered using the SDI Extreme as an ISO recorder, but the AUXs did not carry individual audio but only PG
IT Never Gets Old
(1:09:10) Q: At some point Aaron I think your viewers would enjoy you looking at the ZowieBox... I just got one and I am really impressed by it. A super useful tool like the ProConverts and Decimators
andypooet
(1:10:10) Nice. Minus mixes is one of those really messy things that people don't really think about when asking you to do events 🙂
Hassan Rasbi
(1:10:59)
IT Never Gets Old
(1:11:16) As Aaron said last week, the ATEM MINI Extreme SDI would also work for the conference thing because it has four SDI outs
Michael Flotron
(1:11:48) The Presentation Converter would be even more perfect if it was had a usb port for a clicker haha
Andrew Francis
(1:12:16) Q: On the Rodecaster Video How snappy are the preset buttons for playing back a fullscreen video hit or loop? Do you think it could work well as a shotbox type device feeding into another switcher?
Micahdotpage
(1:14:04) I have yet to find a hardware switcher that lets you use more than 1 NDI source at a time.
IT Never Gets Old
(1:14:22) @Micahdotpage I could be wrong but I thought the GoSee can do multiple NDI sources
andypooet
(1:15:23) A slight tangent - have you had the opportunity to try the Roland Graphics Presenter yet? I'm very curious how they've enabled the key+fill over single HDMI.
Emerald Audiovisual
(1:16:02) q: Magewell Director Mini also takes multiple NDI
Bailey Stone
(1:16:13) @Aaron Parecki following Frank, I am going to have to hit the hay unfortunately, got a big week ahead with my final exams starting tomorrow. Will have to watch the rest on the replay!
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:16:28) Q: revision on my question from earlier.. when it comes to auto switching and the wide shot what do you think would be more beneficial adding the audio from the wide camera to make it default to that?
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:17:27) what if you used a rode videomic?
Gwen Park
(1:18:18) I picked Roland V-1HD+ over ATEM Mini back in the day b/c of XLR. Boy did I pick wrong since ATEM is still being updated while Roland feels more like a footnote
Micahdotpage
(1:18:47) apparently having just a black box output NDI sources is hard lol
Micahdotpage
(1:20:08) Birddog has a converter but I never see it in a hardware switcher
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:20:31) q: do capture cards output to uvc?
IT Never Gets Old
(1:20:46) Again the Zowiebox does both NDI encoding and decoding for $150
Hassan Rasbi
(1:21:10) Dear, for studio setup, I need a camera with Zoom & Focus control. Is it betterr to buy PTZ, Camcorder, or BMD Studio 6K with Servo lens?
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:21:59) like hdmi in to usb out.. for video?
IT Never Gets Old
(1:22:26) Agreed the BirdDog Play is disappointing... I had one be VERY flaky at an event a few weeks ago
Gwen Park
(1:22:31) XF605 camcorder has remote control
Jay Gee
(1:22:49) Q: have you used voice tracking? I’m building a conferencing system with the RCV and looking at using VfA for the voice tracking shot.
Gwen Park
(1:23:13) XF605 can be controlled remotely in a bunch of ways including Companion. Not a cheap camera though.
MattWRuff
(1:23:26) @Hassan Rasbi if your all ATEM then BM is the way to go but I like real PTZ but they are not cheap!
Andrew Francis
(1:23:50) Q: Are you interested in doing some more conference / meetup streaming after your recent event? Or stick to studio stuff?
Jay Gee
(1:25:28) Voice tracking utilizing Dante automatically zooms to the person speaking.
andypooet
(1:31:30) That would be great with the wireless go integration.
IT Never Gets Old
(1:31:44) Q: Could you to the same virtual camera scenes with the Yolobox as well?
andypooet
(1:33:34) Is the input on the Rodecaster FullHD or 4K?
andypooet
(1:33:48) Thanks. I presumed so. I think this is what Roland refer to as Region-of-Interest switching. Which is kinda cool on their 4K switchers, but out of the budget of most one-man-bands.
Raul Espinosa
(1:34:31) there is no hdmi1 and hdmi2 right?
Jay Gee
(1:34:41) LOL. No. Using the video feed from the PTZ camera that’s tracking the speaker. RCV switches to that feed when the speaker is talking. The voice tracking cam actually follows the person.
IT Never Gets Old
(1:35:36) Q: On the Yolobox Ultra could you use a 4K source to get better virtual camera scenes?
Andre Yanco
(1:38:06) Q: Or do we create the wide angle as another virtual one for HD
Andre Yanco
(1:39:04) Q: Only makes me think, how the setting for OUTPUT will work then. Since the wide angle will be at 4K
Andrew Waldman
(1:39:35) q: So when using auto switching on the RCV and a two person interview, would you simply have each person on high priority and the wide show with the 2 audio sources on the low priority?
Andre Yanco
(1:40:26) Q:Oh that would be interesting. You are cropping an UNSCALED 4K input then ?
MattWRuff
(1:45:01) you can name it
andypooet
(1:45:05) This won't necessarily be a fair comparison, since in both cases, we're cropping a signal. What you really want to compare is an uncropped Full HD to a cropped 4K.
andypooet
(1:47:12) It is softer, but hard to tell how much.
Andre Yanco
(1:49:55) Q: They look same
Eric Likness
(1:50:01) @Andre Yanco I am here for the can of worms. 🪱
Andre Yanco
(1:50:08) Q:I guess I pushed the stream for an additional 15 minutes. Sorry for opening a can of worms 🤣
MattWRuff
(1:50:16) Close enough for Gov't work as the saying goes
Andre Yanco
(1:50:20) Q:Looks like post scaler
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:57:27) ps I heard Aaron snicker as soon as I sent it! also score
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:57:31) I didn't create a catastrophe this week! score!
andypooet
(1:57:37) Yeah, I think it's post scaler, which is to be expected .
Gwen Park
(1:57:45) Q: I'm always impressed by your ability to test stuff on the fly. It must be confusing to think + test + deal with chat (which could be talking about anything).
IT Never Gets Old
(1:58:02) We are beyond a can of worms... maybe a can of snakes
tvndstudio
(1:58:08) Man it’s fun to watch you go waaaay down the rabbit hole!
andypooet
(1:58:14) I mean, we're not cropped perfectly.
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:58:34) last week I asked a question overlay videos or something and you had a hard time getting it working correctly
Gwen Park
(1:58:49) I thought you snickered at @The Dead Dads Club podcast's comment about not creating a catastrophe
andypooet
(1:58:54) How does it compare to the Mini fan in normal operation?
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(1:59:54) only when it starts up does it make a lot of noise
andypooet
(1:59:58) Just wanna say thanks for the great indepth info on these devices. It can be hard to get insight like this without just getting hands on yourself. I've definitely done a lot of research through you.
Roddy Gelabale
(2:00:33) Q: What microphone are you currently using and where is it positioned?
Eric Likness
(2:01:21) Let Aaron try, before you buy. 💵
Jay Gee
(2:01:26) Does the RCV retain the custom scenes after being shut off?
The Dead Dads Club podcast
(2:01:36) Q: are you a part of the rode alpha/beta ttesting? if so I also am part of the alpha. is there a way to update my devices so I can be a part of the rcv alpha testing that you know of?
Andrew Francis
(2:02:15) Q: What would you like to see in next generation A/V control surfaces?
MattWRuff
(2:04:01) Gosh I wish the YoloBox remembered stuff!
Eric Likness
(2:05:29) Not "keeping state" when navigating between dialog boxes/screens, is not good, not fun.
Andre Yanco
(2:05:50) Q:Beta NDA leak push 😂😂😂
Emerald Audiovisual
(2:05:53) Q: Not sure, if those Audio Technica 875R ever are sold anymore. Thomann has delisted them as discontinued, I think. I have two of them and they are such a great mic.
MattWRuff
(2:06:45) @Aaron Parecki Don't worry he heard it from me SO MUCH!
ULETT'S TECHNOLOGIES
(2:07:29) I just saw a video with Paul from PTZ Optics falling in love with the YoloBox Extreme and ultra.
andypooet
(2:07:42) I'm pretty happy with how they've managed to add features.
Gwen Park
(2:10:02) Thanks for the stream, Aaron! Always nice hanging out and talking production!
Andre Yanco
(2:10:08) Q:Excellent Stream Aaron, as always 😃. Enjoyed it a lot.
Andrew Francis
(2:10:10) Great time, thanks for battling the wires Aaron :D
Emerald Audiovisual
(2:10:12) Like and subscrib
Hans Winzell
(2:10:15) Thank you all and thank you Aaron
Andre Yanco
(153:23:37) See you all next week :)
Andre Yanco
(154:51:33) See you all next week :)
